INSULEUR Leads Strategic Discussions on the Future of EU Island Regions in Mallorca

INSULEUR successfully concluded a two-day working session in Mallorca (June 12-13), hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mallorca. These meetings marked a key moment for redefining INSULEUR's strategic direction for the next two years.

On June 12, the President of INSULEUR and of the Cyclades Chamber, Mr. Giannis Roussos, met with the Vice President of the Balearic Islands Government and other institutional representatives at the Palau Reial.

The following day, the INSULEUR Board of Directors convened with the presence of the President of the Chamber of Mallorca and team. Mr. Roussos presented the two-year INSULEUR Action Plan, highlighting increased outreach, innovation, and strategic engagement at EU level. Key decisions included:

- The creation of two dedicated Working Groups:

  • One on the European Island Strategy, coordinated by Giannis Roussos
  • One on the Outermost Regions Regulation, coordinated by Luis Padrón, President of the Gran Canaria Chamber and First Vice-President of INSULEUR

- The integration of Artificial Intelligence tools to improve network governance

- Expansion of the network to include more island chambers

A round table on EU Cohesion Policy followed, with insightful contributions from the Government and University of the Balearic Islands, focused on the structural challenges of insularity. The session concluded with a coordinated effort to contribute to the European Commission's ongoing public consultation, as announced by Commissioner Fitto. These meetings reaffirmed INSULEUR's role as a leading advocate for Europe's island economies, actively shaping policy dialogue at the heart of the EU.
