INSULEUR and EOAEN agree to strengthen their partnership for a wider awareness of the islands problems by the EU

The highest representatives of INSULEUR and EOAEN met last September on the Greek island of Chios in a meeting in which all parties agreed to strengthen their collaboration in order to attract a wider interest from EU Governments towards the specific problems of the European islands.

At that meeting, the EOAEN was represented by the Administrative Council of the institution, which received the visit of the President of INSULEUR and President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Mallorca, Joan Gual de Torrella, together with the Secretary General of that institution,  and of the Treasurer of INSULEUR and President of the Professional Chamber of Piraeus, Giorgos Benetos.

After joining the next day in Lesvos with the Administrative Council of the Chamber of the island, they all had, on Monday September 21st, a meeting with Secretary General of the North Aegean Region, Sofia Theologitou; the Prefect of Lesvos, Pavlos
Vogjatzis, and the Mayor of Mytilene, Naso Giakalis.

At this meeting all parties exchanged their views regarding the specific problems islands have to face and agreed on the need for and increasing collaboration between institutions of the islands, so that EU governments can develop a greater interest and concern towards the particularities of the EU islands.

In that sense, Sofia Theologitou informed the delegation of insular Chambers about the Special Development Programme for the North Aegean, recently created, and pledged his support for designing and implementing specific programs for the Greek islands.
