GTI Academy launches “Empowering Islands” workshops on renewable energy transition

The Greening the Islands Foundation has launched the GTI Academy workshops under its Empowering Islands programme, a capacity-building initiative designed to support island governments and utilities in developing 100% renewable energy roadmaps.

The programme follows the lifecycle of island energy transition - from strategic planning and technology selection to grid operation and financial structuring - providing practical tools to translate climate ambition into structured and investable transition pathways. 

The first workshop, "100% RES Roadmap", will take place on 26 March 2026 and will introduce participants to the GTI 100% RES Islands methodology, including scenario modelling, milestone definition, stakeholder roles and phased decarbonisation strategies for island energy systems. 

Participation is reserved for technical officers and decision-makers responsible for island energy planning, including representatives from island governments, regional administrations, regulatory authorities and utility companies. Seats are limited and subject to eligibility confirmation.
